Diabetes
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic disease where there are high levels of sugar in the blood.
How do you get it?
Diabetes can be caused by insufficient insulin in the body.
What are the symptoms?
Some symptoms of diabetes include:
-Blurry Vision
-Excess Thirst
-Fatigue
-Hunger
-Increased urge to urinate
-Weight Loss
Are there treatments?
Yes, there are treatments to Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. Some treatments for Type 2 diabetes include making lifestyle changes (i.e. watching what you consume) and, in some cases, can be cured by weight-loss surgery.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
Treatment for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes includes diet, medicine, and excersice to control the blood sugar levels. This also helps prevent and future complications and symptoms.
If you have a better control of your cholesterol levels, your blood sugar, and your blood pressure, you redue your risk of kidney disease, eye disease, stoke, and many other deadly complications.
Are there any tests that can be taken?
Yes, there are tests that can be taken to diagnose diabetes and to measure blood sugar and blood pressure.
Some tests include a urine test, which measures the blood sugar, but does not diagnose diabetes on its own. Another test that can be taken would be an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, which has you drink a glucose drink and then the doctor would measure your glucose levels. Besides these two tests, there are other tests that can be taken. One being a Fasting Blood Glucose Level, which is done by your doctor and then analyzed to correctly diagnose a person.
